Property Services Grantley know Surrey better than anyone. We love where we live and know firsthand what it’s like to make a home here. If you’re looking for the small-town life but are still keen to maintain strong links with the Big City, then the charming market town of Haslemere mustn’t be overlooked.
1 | It’s a peaceful countryside haven
Haslemere is surrounded by beautiful woodlands which are noted for their Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status. Nearby, you have the picturesque Blackdown Common, the peaceful Marley Common (both managed by the National Trust) and the charming Linchmere Common. These enchanting areas enclose multiple walking routes and allow for a much-needed woodland escape. The broad array of traditional pubs make a welcome pit stop for the thirsty rambler.
2 | Easy for commuters
It’s rare in the UK housing market to find a home that offers the tranquillity of glorious countryside partnered with easy access to central London (trains run directly to Waterloo in under an hour). Haslemere has the best of both worlds, and the residents know it, it’s a favoured commuter town.
3 | Market-town atmosphere
Haslemere boasts a friendly, neighbourly atmosphere which is reflected in a High Street that has some uniquely independent offerings. This includes bespoke fashion boutiques, an aga shop (that features aga cooking demonstrations), a trendy, combined bar/cafe/post office, a beauty salon and a bookshop. You will also find independent butchers and a fishmonger, an award-winning health food store, a variety of cafes, a Waitrose and a Marks & Spencers Foodhall. If there weren’t enough options, the farmers’ market takes place on the first Sunday of every month and is not to be missed.
4 | History and culture
Haslemere is steeped in history. The local museum is home to some unusual artefacts including an Egyptian Mummy, while Haslemere Hall acts as the town’s cultural centre and plays host to a variety of top-class entertainment including The Royal Ballet, world-class concerts, the latest cinema screenings and so much more.
If that wasn’t enough, just down the road, you have The Haslemere Youth Hub which hosts an array of fantastic activities, such as kid’s sports clubs, arts & crafts sessions, dance lessons and post-natal fitness classes! The real hub of Haslemere is perhaps the Haslewey Centre. Whether you are looking to wind down with a relaxing yoga session or break a sweat with a fast-paced Zumba class, there is undoubtedly something going on that’ll take your fancy.
5 | It’s home to some outstanding schools
When considering a new area to call home, it’s always good to keep your children’s education in mind; fortunately, Haslemere has some excellent state and private schools. A few of the fantastic state schools include St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School, Shottermill Infant and Junior School, Woolmer Hill Secondary School and Bohunt School Liphook (both a secondary and sixth form school).
Haslemere is also home to several exceptional private schools with excellent academic track records. These include St Ives School, The Royal School, Highfield Preparatory School, Churcher’s College, Amesbury Preparatory School and St. Edmunds in close proximity.
